Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Whether you’re scrapping a car for the first time or you’ve done it before, it’s natural to have questions. Below you’ll find answers to the most common queries about our scrap car service, free scrap car quotes, and the car recycling process.
Getting a Scrap Car Quote
How do I get a free scrap car quote?
Simply enter your vehicle registration and postcode into our online tool. You’ll instantly receive a competitive scrap car price based on current market rates.
What is my scrap car price based on?
Your quote is calculated using real-time scrap metal prices, the weight of your vehicle, and any resale value if the car is suitable for salvage.
How long is my scrap vehicle quote valid for?
All quotes are valid for 7 days, giving you time to decide without worrying about price changes.
Do I have to accept the first quote I receive?
No — your quote is obligation-free. If you’re not ready to proceed, you can get another quote at a later date.
Vehicle Types We Scrap
What types of vehicles can you scrap?
We scrap almost all vehicles, including:
Cars (running or non-running)
Vans
4x4s
MOT failures
Accident damaged cars
Non-runners and faulty vehicles
End-of-life vehicles
Can you collect a car with no MOT or tax?
Yes. Your car doesn’t need to be taxed, have a valid MOT, or even be driveable.
Can you collect from anywhere in the UK?
Yes — we offer nationwide free scrap car collection, so wherever you are, we can help.
Collection & Payment
Is scrap car collection free?
Yes. All quotes include free collection from the postcode you provide.
How soon can you collect my car?
Once you accept your quote, we’ll call within 4 business hours to arrange a collection time — usually within 1–2 working days.
How will I get paid for my scrap vehicle? UK?
Payment is made via bank transfer or non-negotiable cheque — cash payments for scrap are not permitted under The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013.
Do I need to be present when my scrap car is collected?
Ideally, yes, but we can make arrangements if you can’t be there — you’ll just need to provide the required documents in advance.
Legal & Paperwork
Do I need to notify the DVLA when I scrap my car?
Yes. It’s your legal responsibility to inform the DVLA you’re no longer the registered keeper. We’ll help complete the paperwork, or you can do it online.
What documents do I need to scrap my car?
You’ll need your V5C logbook (if you have it), proof of ID, and proof of address. If you don’t have the V5C, we can still scrap your car — you’ll just need to provide extra proof of ownership.
Will I get a Certificate of Destruction?
Yes — this is issued by the Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF) to confirm your vehicle has been legally scrapped.
About the Process
What happens to my car after it’s scrapped?
Your vehicle will be processed at a licensed ATF, where it will be depolluted, dismantled, and recycled in line with environmental regulations.
What’s the difference between scrapping and salvage?
If your car is still in good condition or has valuable parts, it may be bought for salvage, meaning it could be repaired or its parts reused. This often results in a higher offer than scrap value.
Can you scrap a car on finance?
No — any outstanding finance must be settled before the car can be scrapped.
